Hi, I’m Catrin MacMahon
My path to photography wasn’t a straight line. I am a trained psychologist born in Germany, but my heart has belonged to South Africa since I first moved here in 2007. I spent over a decade living and working in this beautiful part of the world before moving back to Germany with my family in 2019, so our kids, who were both born in Cape Town, could spend more valuable time with their grandparents.
However, the pull of South Africa and the Deep South was too strong to ignore. In 2025, after a unanimous “family vote,” my South African husband, our two children, and I decided it was time to come home for good. We chose Noordhoek as our base, drawn to its wild beauty and sense of community.
My background in psychology deeply influences my work today. I don’t just see a room or a building; I see the human connection to a space. I’m fascinated by how we live, how we interact with our surroundings, and the small, authentic details that make a place feel like “home.” This curiosity is what led me to launch Salt and Silver—a photography practice dedicated to telling the real stories of homes, hospitality, and sustainable projects.
What began as a passion has grown into a profession I love: helping hosts, homeowners, and agents show their spaces in the best light — honestly and beautifully.
